Give Away Your Best Stuff

Give Your Best Away

“By giving away we feel rich; by hoarding we feel poor.”

Debasish Mridha

Introduction:

As an author, your goal is to reach as many readers as possible and to build a strong relationship with them. One effective strategy for achieving these goals is by giving away your book for free. This can help you attract new readers, build your email list, and ultimately make money from your book.

The Value of Giving Away Your Book to Attract Readers and Clients

Here's why giving away your book can be an effective strategy:

  • Builds your email list: One of the biggest benefits of giving away your book for free is that it allows you to build your email list. When someone downloads your book, you can require them to provide their email address in exchange. This gives you a valuable way to communicate with your readers and stay top of mind with them.

  • Establishes you as an expert: By giving away your book, you're demonstrating your expertise and providing valuable information to your potential readers. This can help establish you as a thought leader in your field and build credibility with your audience.

  • Attracts new readers: Offering your book for free can be a great way to attract new readers who may not have otherwise found you. People are often more likely to try something out if there is no risk involved, and giving away your book allows you to reach a wider audience and bring new people into your marketing funnel.

  • Leads to paid book sales: While giving away your book for free may seem counterintuitive, it can actually lead to more paid book sales. When someone downloads your book for free and finds it valuable, they may be more likely to purchase your other books or products. Additionally, you can promote your paid products within the book itself or through email marketing to your email list.

Examples of authors who have used this strategy to build their email list and make money from their book include:

  • Tim Ferriss, author of "The 4-Hour Work Week." Ferriss gave away a portion of his book for free and used it to build his email list and promote his paid products.

  • Joanna Penn, author of "How to Make a Living with Your Writing." Penn gave away a portion of her book for free and used it to build her email list and promote her paid courses and resources for authors.

  • Ramit Sethi, author of "I Will Teach You to Be Rich." Sethi gave away a portion of his book for free and used it to build his email list and promote his paid courses and coaching services.

  • Marie Forleo, author of "Everything is Figureoutable." Forleo gave away a portion of her book for free and used it to build her email list and promote her paid courses and coaching services.

  • Jeff Goins, author of "The Art of Work." Goins gave away his book for free and used it to build his email list and promote his paid courses and coaching services.

  • Amy Porterfield, author of "Facebook Marketing All-in-One for Dummies." Porterfield gave away her book for free and used it to build her email list and promote her paid courses and webinars.

Don't Be Afraid to Give Stuff Away

These authors have all found success with giving away their books for free and using that strategy to grow their email list and promote their paid products. By providing valuable information and building a relationship with their readers, they have been able to grow their businesses and reach their goals as authors.

In conclusion, giving away your book for free can be a valuable strategy for building your email list and making money from your book. By attracting new readers, establishing yourself as an expert, and promoting your paid products, you can grow your business and reach your goals as an author.
