Hands stacked in support, People do business with people they know, like, and trust

Visibility, Credibility, Profitability

All things being equal, people will do business with, and refer business to, those people they know, like, and trust.

- Bob Burg, author, Endless Referrals

Know Like and Trust symbolized by hands of many people stacked on top of each other

With that said, here are key reasons why you should focus on raising your visibility, credibility, and profitability through relationship building! 👊

Are you an author struggling to connect with your audience? Do you find it challenging to build a loyal fan base that eagerly awaits your next release? You're not alone. As an author, it's not enough to write a fantastic book; you also need to build a strong relationship with your readers. That's where the "know, like, and trust" factor comes in.

The "know, like, and trust" factor is the foundation of any successful relationship, whether personal or professional. In the context of an author-reader relationship, it means that readers need to know you, like you, and trust you to become loyal fans. Let's take a closer look at each factor and why it's essential.

1. Know

Readers need to know who you are, what you stand for, and what you write about. You can build this factor by creating an author website, regularly posting on social media, attending book signings and events, and doing interviews. When readers know who you are, they're more likely to check out your books.

2. Like

Once readers know who you are, they need to like you as a person. People are more likely to support those they like and connect with on a personal level. You can build this factor by being authentic, sharing personal stories, and engaging with readers on social media. When readers like you, they're more likely to become loyal fans.

3. Trust

Finally, readers need to trust you as an author. They need to believe that you'll deliver a quality reading experience every time they pick up one of your books. You can build this factor by consistently delivering high-quality books, responding to reader feedback, and being transparent about your writing process. When readers trust you, they're more likely to recommend your books to others.

Let's look at some case studies to illustrate the importance of the "know, like, and trust" factor:

Case study #1: Joanna Penn, a bestselling author and podcaster, built her fan base by consistently sharing valuable content on her blog and social media. She also created a personal connection with her readers by sharing her struggles and successes as an author. By building the "know, like, and trust" factor, she has a loyal fan base that eagerly anticipates each new book release.

Case study #2: J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, built the "know, like, and trust" factor by connecting with her readers on a personal level. She often responds to fan mail, attends book signings and events, and shares personal stories on social media. By building this factor, she has a massive fan base that spans multiple generations and has made her one of the most successful authors of all time.

If you're an author looking to build your fan base and connect with your readers, the "know, like, and trust" factor is essential.
