Come to the Sonoma Valley Regional Library to bask in the poetry of local authors and learn how Redwood Writers contributes to the craft, marketing, and success of writers.

Judy joined Redwood Writers to develop her skills as an author and poet. She became President of the Club in 2022. She has served the group in several capacities including Vice President, chair of Membership, Redwood Writers Academy, a member of the Speaker and Conference Teams. Her tech skills helped the group migrate to online meetings and workshops during lock down.
Redwood Writers continues to innovate as it serves its members with monthly in-person meetings, small groups, and publications.

"I know my book is good. But it feels like I'm shouting into a void."
Here's a test I give authors: Picture the exact person your book was written for. Tonight, that person sits down and searches for help with the problem you solve. In the next ten seconds, do they find you?
For most authors, the honest answer is no. That's the Visibility Gap, and it's the first place a book stalls.
This is the misunderstanding that keeps smart authors stuck. They believe visibility is about activity. Post more, show up more, stay consistent. So they do, and they still feel invisible because effort and visibility are not the same thing.
Visibility is about being findable by the right person at the moment they're looking. You can post every single day and still be invisible to the one reader who would have hired you, simply because you're not where they look or you're not showing up for what they need.
When the right readers can't find you, it's usually one of these.
You're not where they gather. Your ideal reader lives on podcasts and in professional communities, and you're pouring your energy into a platform they never open.
You're findable, but not for the right thing. Someone lands on your profile and can't tell within seconds who you help or what problem you solve, so they move on.
You're relying on one channel. Everything depends on a single platform's algorithm, and when it shifts, your visibility vanishes overnight.
Notice that none of these is a content problem. They're all placement and positioning problems.
The Visibility Gap has a quiet, compounding cost. Every month the right reader can't find you, they don't wait. They hire whoever they can find. Often that's someone with less expertise than you and a clearer front door.
Your book was supposed to be that front door. When it's invisible, the credibility you earned sits unused while easier-to-find competitors collect the clients who needed you specifically.
Visibility is an Expand problem, and it sits directly on top of positioning.
🐝 E — Expand: Being findable by the right readers, in the places they actually gather, for the problem you actually solve.
🐝 B — Brand: You can't be found for the right thing until you're clear on what that thing is. Visibility without positioning just makes you loudly unclear.
This is why I never treat visibility as a volume problem. More noise doesn't close this gap. Better placement does.
Try the ten-second test for real. Search the way your ideal reader would, and see what comes up. If it isn't you, or it's you but nothing makes clear who you help, you've found your gap.
