You’ve probably heard a song that’s very famous, and it’s by someone I happen to know. I first saw him on New Year’s Eve in a tiny club in North Beach. I’m talking about Bobby McFerrin. His wonderful lyrics, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” apply to showing up every day in a positive way.

I’m not suggesting that you give up agency. What I am sharing is this: when you can be in the moment and think about what brings you joy, being present, you can be happy right now.

If you have a mean girl voice chattering inside your head, did you know you can tell that voice “Thank you. No thanks, I’ve got this from here.”

You can take a breath before you go into all of the “blah, blah, blah, oh, I’m not good at this or that, or the oh, I don’t know how to do this.” Whatever your chatter is, because we all talk to ourselves, and we believe every word. That’s how our brains are wired.

If you have been telling yourself lies or the truth, it doesn’t matter, because, your brain believes you, no matter what. It is not a lie detector when it comes to self-talk.

Imagine what would happen if instead of beating yourself up, you could focus on sharing your message?

You could become your own best friend and cheer yourself for your creativity, your stick-to-it attitude. You could be focused on having a joyful conversation. You can learn to align your self-talk to soothe your nervous system and align your internal dialogue in a positive way so that you can do the things that will help, instead of harm you, in your life and in your business.

Let that sink into your heart and bones. Shifting the way you talk to yourself in an affirming way can help you in your life because suddenly, the fear and negativity you may have experienced is replaced. It is not in the shotgun seat, it has been shrunk and is strapped into the baby carrier in the back seat of your car, or maybe you have left it by the side of the road you are traveling. You don’t need it anymore. After all, now you’re free to use your natural gifts and inclinations, in alignment with your positive way of thinking and way of being open to connecting with other people.

I’ve just described the power, simplicity and essence of the BEES Method of marketing for authors.
